Preserving our oceans

An ocean is generally defined as a body of saline water that composes much of the planet’s hydrosphere. The oceans cover almost 72% of the world’s surface. These include The Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, Southern and the Arctic Ocean.

There are numerous problems which are man-made that come to light very frequently which harm the environment, specifically the ocean. When it comes to acting on preserving the ocean, it is mostly presumed to be near impossible for a person or a small group of people to preserve the ocean on their own.

Few Common Practices That Harms the Ocean

For one to think about preserving the ocean, he or she should first point out the common practices which go a long way in destroying the ocean which is a much needed resource.

  • Accidentally or at times intentionally leaving behind nets and any other fishing materials in the ocean which end up harming the sea life. Most end up dying after they are trapped due to either exhaustion or suffocating. This makes it hard for them to get to the surface of the water for air thus they end up dead
  • Use of poison to fish also damages the ocean. In certain areas such as the Philippines, fishermen traditionally pour cyanide into the ocean to catch fish easily. However, such methods end up killing other sea life like plants and even the corals that form the reefs.
  • Waste such as sewage and garbage finding its way to the ocean harms the ocean leading to decomposition of the organic matter that destroys the ocean’s ecosystem.

These common practices mentioned here are just but a few of what man does to the ocean which results in its pollution thus hazardous. These are some of the things that should be avoided to preserve oceans and the marine life in them.

How to Preserve the Ocean

Paying attention to the idea of configuring civilization and figuring the ideal practices, it becomes very easy to preserve the ocean which is a very important resource. This can be done by getting the regular people to be involved and kick-start the journey of change. This can be done by educating the fishermen and to the owners of the local groceries into storing varied types of sea food. They should be taught on not to overfish one species of fish.

The local inhabitants should also be careful on what they throw away to the ocean to avoid pollution of the marine ecosystem. Fishermen should also be advised on not leaving their fishing gear out in the ocean as it endangers the sea life that live in the ocean.

It is important to make the people realize the value of the ocean and also of the life in it, either plant or fish. We should safeguard the ocean for our own good and for the future generation. Preserving the oceans should be one of our main priorities as it’s the home of vast sea life.

Ecosystem preservation

What Is an Ecosystem?

An ecosystem can be defined as a community of living organisms called producers, consumers and decomposers. It can also be explained as a complex set of relationship among the living resources including fish, animals, plants, trees, birds, water, soil, micro-organisms and people. In Summary, we can define an ecosystem as all the living things in a given area, interacting with each other, and also with their non-living environments such as weather, sun, soil, climate and the atmosphere.

There are different types of ecosystems namely: Forest, Grassland, Desert, Tundra, Fresh water and Marine Ecosystems.

How to Preserve Various Ecosystems

It is important to preserve wild ecosystems through organic agriculture. This can be done both through a direct and an indirect effect. This is achieved by preserving up to 70% of land as wild ecosystem thus making it to give extensive economic value for both the society that is involved and also for agriculture. This organic Agriculture is the use of no chemicals in farming, thus growing plants naturally with no chemicals at any stage.

The Ecosystem can be preserved by protecting the rain forests. This is vital seeing that the earth’s elegance is at risk due to deforestation and arrogance that people are treating nature with.

Another way of protecting the ecosystem is by being part of the green movement. Currently, there are numerous organizations whose main aim is to preserve the environment. These Green Movements target at maintaining a balance in the natural order. This is mainly a group of enthusiasts who love nature and prefer to preserve it in the best way there is possible. Most of the members go about this by informing and educating other people on issues concerning the environment, making them to be aware on how the dangers facing the ecosystem would impact them. This makes them enjoy the basis of conserving the natural habitat.

One can also preserve the ecosystem by using the open space conservation method. This involves leaving some pockets of space that is open where people can get adequate room to share nature. This can be wildlife, sunlight, grassland or even wood land. Just as long as there is open space where nature is left to endeavor on it’s own without any human interference.

On the other hand, marine ecosystem can be preserved by the carbon trading mechanism. This is where the setting off of the carbon is advanced thus preserving the sea animals from suffocating from inhaling too much carbon that is at times let directly into the oceans and seas, which are homes to numerous sea life.

Another way of maintain the native ecosystem could be through fencing off certain areas and setting them aside such as museums and national parks or game reserves. Within these places, the existence if the living organisms should be left to thrive on its own as nature would have it. There should be no external interference from people to try and control the ecosystem at any cost.
